ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFER MODE(cont...)

ATM virtual connections —   A Transmission path (TP) is the physical connection (wire, cable, satellite, and so on) between an end point and a switch or between two switches —   A Virtual Path (VP) transports ATM cells belonging to virtual channels which share a common identifier, called the Virtual Path Identifier VPI. Connects two switches. —   A Virtual Channel (VC) provides the transport of ATM cells which have the same unique identifier, called the Virtual Channel Identifier (VCI). ATM protocol reference model The Physical Layer •         This layer describes the physical transmission of information through an ATM network. •        The original design of ATM was based on SONET because  high data rate of SONET’s carrier , the boundaries of cells can be clearly defined . •         SONET specifies the use of pointer to define the beginning of a payload. •        Types of physical media specified for ATM include shielded and unshielded twisted-pair, coaxial cable, and fiber-optic

ATM – definition: A transfer mode in which information is organized into cells; it is asynchronous in the sense that the recurrence of cells containing information from an individual user is not necessarily periodic". OR High-speed transfer technology for voice, video, and data over public networks. ATM VS X.25 —   As the speed and number of local area networks (LANs) continue their relentless growth, increasing demand is place on wide area packet-switching networks to support the tremendous throughput generated by these LANs. —    X.25 was designed to support direct connection of terminals and computers over long distances. —   X.25 packets may be of varying length, whereas ATM packets are of fixed size. —   X.25, with its substantial overhead, is being recognized as an inadequate tool for wide area networking. ATM VS FRAME RELAY —   ATM is normally utilized for high bandwidths of 34 Mbps and upwards. —   At speeds of 2 Mbps and below, Frame Relay is more bandwidth effi

Wireless LANs vs. Wired LANs

Local area network (local computer network) allows the exchange of data and information through a computer, by providing fast and reliable connection.   Conventional computer network using cable transmission media, coaxial, twisted pair or fiber optic to meet those needs.   Wiring is in addition to hardware and software, is also a big part of the cost of installing a computer network investment.   For existing networks in large offices, wiring costs can reach more than 40% of the total cost required.   Problems will arise if the network will reconfigure or for temporary offices as the consulting firm.   To reset the network pengkonfigurasian case, it would take almost the same cost with the cost of new LAN installations.   Meanwhile, LAN cabling for office semantara will only spend time and money.  This problem encouraged the development of wireless LAN participate, given the characteristics of a flexible wireless system to be implemented anywhere, such as offices, industries, hospi

If your 9 to 5 requires you to be a desk jockey for most of the day, chances are you either need to hit the gym to work off that   Subway sandwich   you had for lunch – or worse yet, you don’t work it off at all (Jared would not be proud). Enter the   Sit to Walkstation . This desk/treadmill combo is the answer to every desk potato’s prayers! It allows you to sit, stand or even walk on a treadmill as you work so that your body can look as stacked as that last set of blueprints you handed in to your boss. The Sit to Walkstation is an integrated treadmill and desk with room to fit an office chair and all of the files, folders, accessories that you would at a normal desk. In order to switch from sitting mode to standing or walking, all you have to do is push a button.
