Wireless LANs vs. Wired LANs

Local area network (local computer network) allows the exchange of data and information through a computer, by providing fast and reliable connection. Conventional computer network using cable transmission media, coaxial, twisted pair or fiber optic to meet those needs. Wiring is in addition to hardware and software, is also a big part of the cost of installing a computer network investment. For existing networks in large offices, wiring costs can reach more than 40% of the total cost required. Problems will arise if the network will reconfigure or for temporary offices as the consulting firm. To reset the network pengkonfigurasian case, it would take almost the same cost with the cost of new LAN installations. Meanwhile, LAN cabling for office semantara will only spend time and money. This problem encouraged the development of wireless LAN participate, given the characteristics of a flexible wireless system to be implemented anywhere, such as offices, industries, hospitals and universities. Besides the wireless system also offers a variety of applications including communications applications between terminals PC and connect to wireless networks such as PABX telephone. With these considerations, the wireless LAN can provide a more economical installation costs, in addition to its portable. In an indoor wireless LAN is used to implement cellular architecture where the building will be divided into several cells and each cell will have a wireless link. Wireless coverage area depend on several factors such as technology used, implementation environment, speed etc data.
 Technology

In principle the construction of a wireless link to the implementation of wireless LAN can not only be done with the technology of radio frequency (RF), but also can use infrared technology. But nowadays, more RF technology developed for the needs of wireless system. RF technology itself is divided into multiple access techniques, one of them is Multiple Access technique most often used as a technique vendors access their wireless products, namely multiple access techniques FDMA, TDMA and CDMA.
